IRMCO FLUIDS 980-109 - Stamping fluidsIRMCO FLUIDS 980-109 – Fluids for stamping operations

IRMCO FLUIDS 980-109 has been developed with additional elements compared to previous fluids, making it more cost-effective and more useful.

Stamped sheet metal

980-109 is an oil-free lubricant, easy to wash off, designed for sheet metal stamping operations. It has proven particularly effective in stamping steels commonly used in the production of household appliances. IRMCO FLUIDS 980-109 is easily water-dilutable and can be used sparingly, applying a thin film to the sheet metal. It is also easily removed in conventional washing processes, both neutral and alkaline pH, making it excellent for production that continues with porcelain enamel firing systems.

IRMCO 980-109 can be used in more general steel forming applications ranging from steels with 200 MPa up to steels exceeding a tensile strength of 500 MPa. Enameling steels used in the production of outdoor grills, household appliance components, and bathroom or kitchen accessories can be stamped with concentrations ranging from 30% to 15% in water. These percentages may vary depending on different factors such as speed and the severity of the specific application.

This type of lubricant has a specific chemical formulation that is not suitable for use on galvanized sheet metal, aluminum, and yellow alloys.

ENAMELLED STEEL: IMPROVING CLEANLINESS

Project scope:
Replace the emulsifiable sheet metal forming oil that was causing premature wear on the dies and creating cleaning issues during the glazing phase

Stamped sheet metal

Metal substrate:
Type III, I-F enameled steel—0.9 mm thick

IRMCO Product:
IRMCO FLUID 980 109—25% dilution in water

Process improvements:

  1. Elimination of breakages and improved smooth movement of strips advancing toward the furnace.
  2. Simpler dilution, lower thickness of the applied lubricant film. Consumption reduced by 10%.
  3. Defects caused by dry residues have been eliminated.
  4. The washing bath is more effective, with reduced alkaline detergent use and shorter treatment times.

INCREASING DIE LIFE

circular sheet metalProject scope:
Replace the sheet metal forming oil that was causing excessive die wear, high costs, and lengthy cleaning times.

Metal substrate:
Type III, I-F enameled steel—0.9 mm thick

IRMCO Product:
IRMCO FLUID 980 109—diluted 10% in water.

Process improvements:

  1. Elimination of punching burrs and a 25% increase in tool life.
  2. Simpler dilution, lower thickness of the applied lubricant film. Consumption reduced by 10%.
  3. Defects caused by burnt oil-based lubricant during welding have been eliminated.

ENAMELLED STEEL: IMPROVING QUALITY

Project scope:
Stamped sheet metal for stovesReplace the sheet metal forming oil, which was causing excessive die wear and cleaning issues that negatively affected the quality of the enamel coating.

Metal substrate:
Type III, I-F enameled steel—1.3 mm thick

IRMCO Product:
IRMCO FLUID 980 109—diluted 15% in water.

Process improvements:

  1. Burrs and edge pitting around perforations were eliminated, and tool life was extended by 25%.
  2. Simpler dilution, lower thickness of the applied lubricant film. Consumption reduced by 10%.
  3. Orange peel enamelling defects were eliminated thanks to the cleaner surface.
  4. Lower use of detergents in the washing bath and increased bath life.
